Pitbulls - Born to kill. Hide your children.

The headlines in the paper read-

"Pit bull attacks three year old child, the breed is born to kill."

"Children in park mauled by pit bulls"

"Pit bull breed banned from city limits."

"Innocent woman attacked in the middle of the night by the man killer breed."

John 7:24
"Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”

The last couple of months it seems that society has put out more awareness on the "danger" of pit bulls than ever before. Unfortunately many people are ignorant about the Pit Bull Terrier breed. Because of the false accusations and sketchy reports the media has published, the breed has become unfairly judged. The unfair stigma has caused a lot of unrealistic fear around the world. In return laws are being made to keep the breed banned and the innocent dogs are being euthanized.

I am writing this article only in the hopes that some people will look at the statistics and realize that not everything the media tells you is true. Pit bulls, along with other breeds can be dangerous in the wrong circumstances, but they are not born killers as some of you may assume.

"To date, every shred of empirical evidence suggests that pit bulls are the same as, if not better than, other breeds when it comes to human interaction. Each year, the American Temperament Testing Society holds evaluations across the country for dog breeds and gives a passing score for the entire breed based on the percentage of passed over failed within total number of the particular breed tested. As of 2008, pit bull breeds achieved a combined passing score of 85.5 percent. To put these figures into context, the combined passing rate of all breeds was 81.6 percent. The Collie, an icon of obedience, passed at a rate of 79.4 percent, and the beloved Golden Retriever scored at 84.2 percent. According to the American Temperament Test Society Pit Bulls rank better in temperament than many other breeds including but not limited to The Airedale Terrier, Basenji, Beagle, Bichon Frise, Border Collie, Chihuahua, Collie, English Setter, Lhasa Opso, Pomerian, Shar-Pei, Shiba Inu, Shih Tzu, Schnauzer, and Toy Poodle."

Many believe that the Pit bull breed is constantly looking to attack. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The media never publishes that many highly respected individuals were the owner of the breeds such as President Woodrow Wilson, President Theodore Roosevelt, Helen Keller, Fred Astaire, Humphrey Bogart, and Thomas Edison. Nor do they hardly ever publish when Pit bulls act as heroes. Over the years many Pit bulls have served doing the following-

■Search and rescue
■Therapy dogs visiting hospitals and senior communities
■Working in law enforcement as narcotics and bomb detection dogs
■Educational dogs teaching children about canine safety
■Service dogs

The problem with the Pit bull breed is not the breed itself. It is the ignorant morons that want to own the breed because of the look of the animal. Pit bulls look aggressive and if you force them to be aggressive (just like any other breed) there are consequences. Unfortunately for the Pit bulls in today's society we see a lot more "bad people" owning them than years ago. They are often sought after by drug dealers, gang members, and other criminals. The bad behavior of the owner is a negative reflection on the dog. I have yet to read an article about the good of the breed and the fact of the matter is THEY ARE DOING GOOD THINGS.

In the 1940's and 1950's Pit bulls were known as the "Nanny Dog." Surprising isn't it? It's true. Families believed that Pit bulls had the best temperament around children. They were level headed and protective. They would guard their families while allowing children to crawl all over them and pull on their ears.

I believe we live in a society where people want to be victims. Today in 2011 people take less responsibility for their actions than ever before. If they are bit by a dog (especially one labeled as a man killer) they will rarely ever consider their own lack or responsibility or that the bite may have come from their own negligence.

Let’s put the media hype into perspective and get to the root of the problem – the overpopulation of this breed, the mistreatment of this breed, and the myths about this breed. The bottom line is that the breed is misunderstood. None of the statistics or information above was written to try and convince people that this is the breed for them or that the breed is not at all dangerous. Any animal can be dangerous in the wrong circumstances. This blog is only an attempt to publish some truth along with the multiple lies society speaks about with this pit bulls. "What you speak about you bring about."

The dogs are not the problem. People are the problem.

Lord bless those I love

Today I pray to the Lord up above
That he'll bless those that I truly love

I pray that he will be with my family & friends
I pray he'll protect & bless those I love until the end

And when their days are like battles
And their hearts feel ripped and torn

I pray Lord that you will bring them peace
And fill the hearts with comfort that mourn.

It is your strength Lord that keeps us whole
It is your love Lord, we feel deep within our souls

Lord please be with those who need you today
Protect the hearts of my loved ones and bless them in every way

Amen

We live by example & we are examples ...

"I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God." 1 Timothy 2:9-10

I absolutely love this verse. I have been thinking all day today how I want to go about writing this next blog. I usually don't have a hard time finding words or expressing my opinions but this subject is particularly important to me. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't sign on to facebook & see a woman intentionally degrading herself. It's makes me sick that women feel the need to act in such a trashy way in hopes of attracting men. I started thinking about this a couple of months ago when I started seeing what I like to call "The facebook signature pose" For those of you who are not aware of what I am talking about I will explain. This is when a woman usually in shorts (short enough to be panties) puts on some sort of low cut shirt, uses her arms to push her breasts together & then proceeds to bend down slightly in front of the camera allowing her cleavage to be the first & usually ONLY thing anyone (or any man) would notice. Men are usually pretty simple for the most part, but most of them do have enough common sense to know when a woman has breasts without her putting them on display. (Let's give the men a little credit) There is really no need to make yourself look like a total bimbo. Why not just hold up a sign that says "I have huge boobs, but no brain."

We live by examples and we are examples. Which in essence is probably why this particular subject is so important to me. I don't care so much about one woman lacking self respect. What I do care about is the example she is setting. Sexy is not showing it all off before or on the first date, and sexy is not offering your body to a man because he showed you a little attention. Sexy is being confident enough to know you are a woman God created and you deserve respect. You deserve a man who loves you for your mind, spirit, and then your body. I am not in anyway saying that it's wrong to look your best or to carry yourself in a way that makes you feel good. I am merely trying to distinguish a sexy way of presenting yourself as oppose to a slutty way.

Just like anything that comes out of the Bible I think we should think about the time and the context of when it was written. I love the bible verse above but I don't think that anyone is going to hell for wearing miss me jeans and fashion forward jewelery. I don't want anyone to misunderstand the reason for this blog. This is not being written to put any woman down. If anything, I wish women would read this & realize they have more to offer than their bodies. I believe if you want a man or anyone for that matter, to respect you, you must first have respect for yourself. More importantly, respect for Jesus Christ.

I once heard Dr. Phil say "Never marry someone until you have seen them in bed with the flu." Relationships based off of love, trust, and friendship can make it through the flu or any obstacle. Relationships based off of breasts and a good time usually bite the dust about the time a subtle cough sets in.

I'll end with this- “Respect is love in plain clothes.” Frankie Byrne
Another one of my absolute favorite quotes... Real men respect and love women in sweats with no make up. They adore and show attention to women who are intelligent & who are covered up. The "facebook signature pose" along with any other less than respectful picture is only telling the world (men in particular) it's okay to be disrespectful. Why respect a woman if she doesn't even respect herself? My momma has told me for years "Ashley, you better marry someone that can make you laugh, because in in 50 years that's all you'll have with each other. Love & laughter." Of course I want who I am dating to be attracted to me, but more importantly I want someone who loves me for me, not just my body. I sincerely hope my momma's advice opens another woman's eyes like it did mine. We all make mistakes and we are all human. The wonderful thing about life is each day is a new beginning & a new start to being who ever you want to be.

"Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness."1 Timothy 6:11

A prayer for my girls....

Pistols & Pearls Prayer -

Today we pray from our saddles to the Lord up above
to keep us safe, while performing the equestrian drill we so dearly love

We pray for guidance, safety, and faith
We pray to you Lord for direction in any obstacle we may face

We ask you Lord to be by our side
And to keep our horses sure footed in this fast & challenging ride

We ask you to watch over our team as a whole
Help us work together, and achieve our one common goal

It is through your love, mercy, and grace
That this team is able to stay together as we travel from place to place

We want to thank you Lord for giving us this opportunity to ride
The impossible becomes possible with you by our side

The Pistols & Pearls love to ride & performing is what we do
But in each ride we perform Lord, we always dedicate it to you

- Amen
